Plays

I planned this unit to introduce my students to the elements of plays and drama.  I thought that writing a play on a Bible passage would add interest to our worships and Bible lessons.

When the plays on Paul’s shipwreck were presented, I was delighted to discover many different interpretations of what I had thought were a pretty straightforward passage.  For instance, the students all dealt differently with Paul’s motivation for collecting firewood.  Was he cheerful?  Did he volunteer to do this out of kindness for his guards, or was he ordered to start a fire?

Later, we used our play-writing skills to write a Thanksgiving play and plays about immigrants in an immigration unit.  A historical fiction diary makes an excellent basis for dialogue in a play.
